For each overdue Library item returned on October 13, the Library will forgive up to $5 in associated fines for each food or personal item donated. Acceptable items are those that are not damaged or expired and that are on the Long Island Cares most needed items List at https://www.freeportlibrary.info/images/Most-Needed-Items.pdf. This offer does not apply to overdue Library museum passes, hotspots, damaged materials, items that have already been sent to collections, or items that belong to other libraries. The Library gladly accepts donations for Long Island Cares on this and any other day in our bin in the lobby, even if there are no fines to be waived.
As part of Summer Reading at New York Libraries, the State Education Department and myON are partnering to bring thousands of enhanced digital books to children from birth through 8th grade and their families all around the state! The myON Digital Library provides young readers with more than 6,000 fiction and nonfiction e-books, covering a broad range of topics and themes.

Town of Hempstead Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney and Town Clerk Sylvia Cabana visited the Children’s Room and presented a Tiempo de Cuentos Bilingüe, or Bilingual Story Time, to children in grades pre-K to 2. The Councilwoman and Town Clerk read Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey in both Spanish and English. A related craft followed the story.
On July 31, Library patrons had a three-course lunch aboard restored 1920s Pullman dining cars as part of a train and riverboat sightseeing excursion.
